Voice Actor Opera (2024)
Stage design concept for Voice Actor

On the stage space (without a platform, at the level of the audience seats) stands a white rectangular box - the «capsule» measuring 3.5 by 2 meters and 2 meters deep. It is easily movable - 4 wheels are attached to its floor. All its walls are connected by hinges, so that they can be disassembled into separate planes and reassembled back together. Images or videos can be projected onto each wall of the box: this allows for experimetation with different scenarios in which the performer interacts with projections and surfaces, as well as shapes / constellations of walls in space created with the box-construction set.

Each scene resembles a specific but abstract space (e.g. a train interior, a room, a street) in which the performer mimics the presence of being in these places: riding the train, sitting at the kitchen table, walking the street. Sometimes the projections play with scales - objects appear much smaller or bigger comparing to the performer. In some cases, the performer is an observer of the scenario that unfolds in the video projections, in some the performer interacts with the image directly or through the shadow.

The performance is slow-paced and uninterrupted - the construction of new scenes happens openly to the audience, while one song merges into another.
